GAS SEPARATOR

The gas separator uses an abrasion-resistant helicoidal screw to separate gas from reservoir fluid and discharge it into the production tubing annulus. Unlike other gas separators that erode and wear out when exposed to solids and fines, the helicoidal screw has a variable pitch that dramatically reduces blade and body erosion, making it highly resistant to abrasives.

More about gas separators

Gas separators are designed to reduce the volume of free gas entering an ESP. They use centrifugal force to separate gas from fluid and then discharge the gas into the annulus.

The main weakness of other gas separator designs

The presence of sand, solids, and fines in the reservoir fluid cause waterjet wear in gas separator designs used by most production companies. This waterjet effect erodes and eventually cuts through the thermowell and the gas separator body, rendering the separator useless.

The Novomet difference—Stop waterjet wear

Novomet engineers developed the advanced gas separator with an erosion-resistant helicoidal screw that stops waterjet wear. The helicoidal screw uses a blade that features a constantly decreasing pitch angle from entrance to exit. This decreasing pitch allows sand and solids to slide through the separator without eroding the thermowell or separator body. The result is a gas separator that is highly resistant to waterjet wear and that stops cutting in the thermowell and gas separator body.

The gas separator is designed for use in high-sand, high-solids wells with up to 85% free gas. We also offer gas handling for wells with up to 50% gas and a multiphase pumping solution for wells with up to 75% gas.
